St. Peter Church

St Peter's Church was built in the 14th century. In 1542, a monastery of Poor Clares was attached to it.

In 1745, on the project of the well-known priest-architect from Trapani, Giovanni Biagio Amico, the church was renovated and connected to the overlooking monastery complex by a characteristic passageway over the public street.
Inside, the elliptical plan shows clear Bernini and Borromini references. The bright colours of the majolica floor elegantly contrast with the whiteness of the stuccoes.

In the presbytery are four wall paintings from the mid-18th century depicting St Clare with the monstrance, the Nativity of Jesus, the Nativity of Mary and the virginal consecration of St Rosalie, attributed to the Trapani master Domenico La Bruna.

On the high altar is the Madonna of Peace, a marble work by Giacomo Gagini from the second half of the 16th century.

The two marble statues of Sts Peter and Paul on the side altars are works by Nunzio La Matina from 1650.

The other two altars are in honour of the Crucifix and St Francis stigmatised.
