Blackett Institute
It is a scientific organisation founded in 1963 in Erice (TP) by the physicist Antonino Zichichi, who is also its President. In addition to the main office in the former monastery of San Rocco, the former monastery of San Domenico, now the Blackett Institute, and the former monastery of San Francesco, now the Wigner Institute, have been added to the centre over the years. During the years of the Cold War, the Ettore Majorana Centre in Erice was the venue for meetings between scientists from Russia and the United States and over the decades the more than 130 postgraduate schools, for dozens and dozens of courses in all branches of science, have welcomed 160,000 students from all over the world, thousands of professors, researchers, scientific luminaries and 158 Nobel Prize winners, who came to Erice to share their knowledge with young people, raising the Foundation to a level of excellence in the field, recognised worldwide.
